Students will begin receiving personalized emails about their Big Red Backpack textbook program options today, Monday, July 25, 2022.
The Big Red Backpack program is WKU’s new course materials billing and delivery program that makes it easier AND less expensive for you to get your required course materials by the first day of class!
This is a student led initiative that will benefit students by both reducing the cost of textbooks as a whole and increasing student success by getting those materials into the student’s hands by the first day of class. Members of the Student Government Association worked closely with the Provost, Vice President of Enrollment and Student Experience, the WKU store, and Barnes and Noble.
Students were automatically enrolled in the Big Red Backpack program when they registered for classes*. Starting July 25, students will receive an email from the WKU Store to verify their order and select whether they would like to pick up all your required books or have them shipped. Then, prior to the first week of classes, students will be notified when their order is ready for pick up or when it ships. Student participating in M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan will pick up their books that week. Any digital materials will be delivered for their course(s) within Blackboard.
Instead of buying textbooks individually, participants in this program pay a $24 per credit hour fee that covers ALL of the required course materials. This fee is automatically applied to your student account. If you decide to not participate in the Big Red Backpack program, you can opt out of the program by August 26 at wku.edu/bigredbackpack. The opt-out link is available under the "ENROLLMENT AND PAYMENT" section of the website.
*Please note: Students who are are a dual credit high school student or a military veteran in the VR&E Chapter 31 program are not included in this program and must purchase course materials separately.
