2022 Annual Campus Safety and Security Report
I would like to inform each of you that the 2022 Annual Campus Safety and Security Report is now available on the WKU Police Web Site:
https://www.wku.edu/police/2021campussafetyreport.pdf
This report is in a .pdf file that can be downloaded and printed. In addition to crime and fire statistics for 2021, this report also details policies about the police department and how to report fires and crimes to the police. This report also provides information from the Department of Environment, Health and Safety on campus fires and fire safety.
In an effort to prepare WKU for emergencies, the Department of Environment, Health and Safety has developed building specific Emergency Action Plans for every building on campus. These plans outline what you should do in each building to remain safe during specific emergencies such as earthquakes and tornado warnings with tornado shelter locations. The Emergency Action Plans can be accessed at:
http://www.wku.edu/ehs/beap/
Campus safety information has been distributed to all Faculty and Staff members in the "Faculty / Staff Emergency Procedures Handbook." If you are a Faculty or Staff member and have not received one of these handbooks, contact the WKU Police at 745-2548. This handbook can also be accessed at:
https://www.wku.edu/nursing/documents/handbook/faculty/facultystudentstaffemergencyprocedureflipchart.pdf
WKU has posted campus safety information on three campus websites. They include information about campus safety programs such as the WKU Escort Service that provides escorts to persons from one point on campus to another during hours of darkness. It also provides information on crime prevention programs such as Alcohol Awareness Week, and Rape, Aggression, and Defense (R.A.D.) classes. You can also find information on fire safety programs and Fire Prevention Week on campus. These three websites listed below contain information and videos on a number of emergencies, including active shooter situations.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that WKU Information Technology has created an emergency alert text messaging service. In the event of a serious crime or a dangerous situation such as an approaching tornado, WKU Alert will send a text message advising you of the situation with information on how you can remain safe. You can sign up to receive these emergency notifications by text message to your cell phone and emails. To sign up for this service:
- Go to http://www.wku.edu
- Go to Students drop-down and then select TopNet
- Login to TopNet.
- Go to Personal Information
- Find the tab; View/Update Cell Phone Messaging Notifications.
- Then select the type of communication you wish to receive and enter your information.
- Finally, save changes.
The WKU Police Department and its officers are committed to the safety of the university. Please report criminal acts or suspicious activity to the police when it is occurring. If the WKU police department can be of service to you, please contact us at 745-2548. A paper copy of the “2022 Annual Campus Safety and Security Report” will be provided to anyone upon request at the WKU Police Department, located at Parking Structure #1 on the Diddle Arena side.
