Topper Orientation Program (TOP) Guides are current WKU students who volunteer to host the Spring and Fall orientations and play a unique role in a first-year student’s transition to WKU. TOP Guides gain valuable experience in public speaking, organization, large and small group dynamics, event planning, customer service, and problem solving. Serving as a TOP Guide will be a beneficial addition to your resume regardless of your current major or future career aspirations, with multiple trainings provided to gain knowledge. The TOP Guide selection process is competitive.
Responsibilities
- Lead incoming freshman students through one-day-long orientation programs
- Introduce incoming students to WKU traditions
- Work in a diverse team and with diverse groups
- Work in small groups and facilitate small group discussion
- Support the logistics of TOP
- Prepare and implement TOP materials and subjects
- Attend required day-long retreat on Saturday, January 21st, 2023
- Attend required meetings every Thursday night at 8:00PM (starting Spring 2023)
Requirements
- Be a full time, undergraduate student in academic good standing.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, including exceptional public speaking skills.
- Possess and maintain cumulative 2.75 college GPA.
- If you’re a freshman, you must have a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA.
- Attend all full-day (6AM-6PM) Topper Orientation Programs (TOP) during the Spring, and at minimum 75% of the total orientation dates offered, with the exception of class.
