Earlier this semester, scaffolding and fencing were installed near the southern stairwell of Hilltopper Hall when staff in Facilities Management noticed decorative stonework had shifted out of position. While conducting repairs, third-party engineers identified other components of the building’s façade that require further investigation.
The full evaluation and repair of the building’s exterior decorative elements will likely continue throughout the coming months. In the meantime, we will temporarily close additional sections of sidewalk out of an abundance of caution. Residents of The Valley and all other pedestrians in the area should refrain from entering fenced areas.
It's important to note that assessments have revealed no concerns with the building’s steel framework or structural integrity. Staff in Housing & Residence Life will communicate additional information about sidewalk closures and alternate paths directly with residents of The Valley.
