WKU Parents,
On September 1st President Timothy Caboni emailed our students to communicate the cancelation of the planned September Commencement. As you might know, we planned to hold our 2020 Parent & Family Weekend that same weekend. Our public health officials from the Barren River District Health Department and COVID-19 Task Force do not feel it is in the best interest of everyone in our WKU Community to move forward with large social gatherings at this time.
After much reflection and consideration of moving the event to a virtual platform, we decided that we, too, would cancel our plans for Parent & Family Weekend on September 19th.
As President Caboni said, “From the beginning of this health crisis, WKU has remained committed to prioritizing the health and wellbeing of our entire WKU community above anything else we do. Please know that flexibility is key to us individually and as an institution as we continue to adapt in order to live safely beside COVID-19. All of us at WKU appreciate your ongoing commitment to not only your safety but also to the safety of all those in our communities.
As we navigate this challenging time, our COVID-19 Task Force, health and safety team, and others continue to follow the virus’s movement closely and frequently connect with public health officials in our local area and beyond, following their important guidance. One of those areas under constant and mindful review is campus events.”
A Hilltopper perseveres over difficulties. Parent & Family Weekend is the highlight of our year in Parent & Family Programs and this year’s cancellation is incredibly difficult as I looked forward to meeting you all in person. We will continue our monthly meetings and discuss programming for the remainder of the academic year.
